Asian Games 2023 Schedule: Nepal Date, Venue, Cricket Teams Schedule

The 2022 Asian Games is kicking off from 28th September to 8th October. The 19th edition of Hangzhou Asian Games will be featuring 40 different sports including cricket after almost a decades.

Cricket returns to Asian Games after 8 years

The event has been postponed till 2023, delaying cricket's eight-year absence from the Asian Games. The Covid-19 epidemic in China has prompted a change in preparations for the 19th iteration of the Games, which were scheduled to take place in Hangzhou from September 10 to September 25.

In 2010 in Guangzhou, cricket made its debut at the Asian Games. When it last participated in the competition in 2014, Sri Lanka won the gold medal in the men's competition by defeating Afghanistan by 68 runs, and Pakistan won the gold in the women's competition by defeating Bangladesh by four runs.

Cricket at Asian Games

The 2023 Cricket at Asian Games is kicking off from 27th of September. The competition will be played in T20I format with 18 teams participating. Out of top 4 T20I teams India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka & Pakistan, other 14 teams have been grouped in 4 groups.

The Nepali cricket team is in group B consisting of two weak countries, Japan and Cambodia. In the T20I rankings, Nepal is in 17th place, while Japan is in 53rd place and Cambodia is not even in 87th place. Afghanistan and Mongolia are in Group A, China, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia are in Group D, while Malaysia, Bahrain and Maldives are in Group D.

2023 Asian Games cricket is seen as a preparation for the 2024 T-20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, which will start from October 30 in the home ground, TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

Only last month, Nepal has announced the team to play Asian Games under the captaincy of Rohit Paudel. India and Pakistan will send A team there. On behalf of India, Rituraj Gaikwad and Pakistan have announced the team under the captaincy of Qasim Akram.
